Error on Joining

If someone is trying to join from http://librairc.net/chat/ and gets the message [11:21:03] Running lightIRC 1.3.4 Build 160. Project home: www.lightirc.com [11:21:07] Error #2031 then the solution is https://www.uoforum.com/threads/fix-for-...ver.50609/

I haven't come across anyone with the problem atm but incase you do this is a temporary fix.

New Cyber Threat

Dear All,

A new cyber attack is affecting computer systems around Europe and everywhere.

A strain of ransomware known as "Bad Rabbit" is believed to be behind the trouble,

and has spread to Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany and any elsewhere.

The criminals behind Bad Rabbit are tricking people into infecting themselves, by disguising the malware as

an Adobe Flash installer and planting it on legitimate websites that have been compromised.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

1. Don't install any update from Adobe Flash Player! Never!

2. Do not provide personal information when answering an email, unsolicited phone call, text message or instant message.
Phishers will try to trick employees into installing malware, or gain intelligence for attacks by claiming to be from IT.
Be sure to contact your IT department if you or your coworkers receive suspicious calls.

3. Make backup to your important data by uploading to your email or saving them to your external hard disk or burning them to CD/DVD.

4. Make sure your Anti virus is updated.

5. Avoid using flash drive or make sure scan them before opening.

Hello, it has came to my attention there is a lot of racist remarks being made especially in #lounge . We have tryed to make this server as laid back as possible, we don't want to be banning on every silly little thing, however being racist towards others is not silly especially to the person who is being abused by people making these obvious racist remarks. We will start to get tough on anyone seen making racist remarks. Pretty much all of you on this server are regular here now and know that making racist remarsk against others is just plain ignorant really so its this simple do the crime take the time and don't complain when ops start booting you for this kind of discussion.

We have made a change to the maximum amount of channels you can join which is now 100 yessssssssssss 100!!!!!!, don't think we even have 100 channels on the network but hey you can join all we do have and not miss out on anything, why not give it a go?

Nickname registration

Hi all just some news about nick registration, you now have to verify nick registration when you register a new nick. If you do not complete registration within one day, your nickname will expire.

In order to complete your account registration, you must type the following on IRC / msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER nick (code). The code will be sent to you in your email after you register.

Also if your nick is registered already and you did not register it with a proper email it may be an idea to change that, so that if you lose your password you then can send for it. The command to do this is /msg NickServ SET EMAIL my@mail.com

We have changed our system so noone will get a vhost on registering now, Vhosts will be given on request to people who don't abuse in chat but there will be no hostserv for to request one you will have to request one from an ircop. Sorry hostserv is being removed but it was down to security issues.

Botserv and GroupServ are now no longer available.

Welcome to our new Forums

We had some good information on some of our old forums, so we have merged them with our new forums so that information isn't lost. The new forums you will also notice are new boards as we have changed from SMF to myBB Boards.Hope you like them kudos to Immortal for all his hard work in moving all these posts it was a huge job merging 3 different Forums

Number of nicks/rooms bots that are allowed on LibraIRC.Net

We have decided to change the limits on a few things on our NetWork, so please if you read this, pass it around so people who don't visit the forums regularly are aware.

People can register 10 channels only, if we see anyone with more than 10 registered on other nicks to try and hide the fact they have lots of rooms registered we will drop them without warning.

Eggdrops are limited to 10 per channel, we don't see a need for more eggdrops than that, some people use them to make rooms look bigger ,it is just stupid really because people join and find a dead room and just leave anyway, so whats the point? So please anyone with hundreds of eggdrops please split them up into different channels. This also applys to BNC's or any other kind of "mute" bots (not including floodbots)!!
We will give people the chance, and time to remove them but if they continue to sit with hundreds of eggdrops in channels we will remove them.

Nicks are the same at the moment and thats 5 per account and only 3 accounts allowed. We think this is a fair number of nicks and gives everyone a chance to get a decent nick and is more than enough nicks for anyone to have.

Note: Remember, having 3 accounts for nicks does not mean you can have 10 channels on each nick its 10 channels over all of your nicks.

Private Rooms

Anyone who joins LibraIrc may own their own private room and may also choose their own operaters and have their own rules, however, LibraIrc Admin expects all room owners to adhere to some basic rules which are linked as part of our ToS (Terms of Service). These are as follows

1. Rooms must be registered with an acceptable title, for example #cybersex, #incest_lovers, #pedo_lovers are not acceptable and brings the standard expected of the server into disrepute and will result in Admin closing the room
2. Rooms used to store floodbots , abusers and chatters who create troubles in public channels are not allowed and will be immediately closed by Admin
3. Rooms used to hold bots which are held there to hold rooms or help other users in their rooms as “guards” “!Seen bots” “TriviaBots” “weather bots” “FunBots” are allowed but the maximum allowed in any private room is 50.
4. IRCops do not normally interfere with any owners private rooms but do reserve the right to do so if they are found to be used for any illegal activities, such as drug dealing, the grooming of minors are just two examples which will immediately result in the room being closed and the owner removed/banned from the Network
5. As the server grows some big private rooms maybe placed on the web pages, should this be the case the owners will be required to totally adhere with LibraIrc’s full ToS (Terms of Service)
6. Chanops are allowed to own a private room or be in a friends private room but are expected to act responsibly. Any breaches of points 1,2 or 4 above will result in their access as a chanop being removed.

To register your own room you will first of all need to ensure your own nick is registered. Simply type /join #your_room_Name_Here and then register the room as follows /msg chanserv REGISTER #room_name (password). Once this is done you can then set access levels for any of your friends whom you wish to have some kind of status in the room from simple voicing to having a joint owner or successor. Any user who you make a successor will automatically take over the room should you decide to drop it or if your nick drops. Joint ownership or making a user a successor is a high risk and should only be done if you absolutely trust the user, many room takeovers have happened in the past due to breaches of trust.

IRCops do not normally interfere with private rooms, however, should a room owner approach an IRCop for assistance, for example due to their channel being constantly flooded, if an IRCop is active they will try to assist if asked.

IRCops sometimes get complaints in private from users about being kicked or banned from private rooms, should this happen the IRCop will always in the first instance refer the user to the room owner or owners pointing out that it is a private room and as such the IRCops do not make any private room rules. At the end of the day room owners can have whom they wish in their own rooms as long as they do not breach the rules set out above.

For information the present IRCops on LibraIrc are libra, Sicilia, Knight_Errant, and Wildcard. These IRCops form the Administrative Team for the LibraIrc Network and owners should be aware that at any time a member of this team may override and enter any private room should they suspect or has been reported that illegal activity is/has been taking place which may damage the reputation of the LibraIrc Network

Some Basic Access Commands

ACCESS SET allows you to set specific flags on a user above or below a certain role or lets you change the role a user is in. Multiple flags should be seperated by a space and have the modifier (+ or -) in front of each flag.
Syntax: [tt]ACCESS <#channel> SET [/tt]
Flags:

Having channels published on our website (webrooms)

General Conditions for people who wish to have their private channel published on our website.

∗ The channel must be run at all times according to the Librairc.Net ChanOps policies.

∗ The channel and owner's nick must have at least a 3 month registration history on Librairc

∗ The channel must have a 15 user average count at all times.You may not use bots/bncs to fill the channel, Humans only. Also the channel may only have 2 protection bots at anyone time.

∗ Language or Country based channels may only have owners from the Country or a Country that speaks said language, i.e Arabic/English speakers may not request a French room on the web.

∗ Channels that contain or are owned by known abusers/flooders will not be accepted.

∗ Owners may not change the founder without notification first, in the event we feel the change of owner is not a positive one for the channel or the user is a known trouble maker the channel may be removed from the website.

∗ Owners should be aware that they must give IRCops enough access within there channels to allow IRCops to deal with any issues that come up in the event there are no live-ops within the channel at the time.

∗ While the IRCops are to be added to access they are in no means liable to deal with any issues while there are your own active ops within the channel.The purpose of the access requirement is in the event there are none of your own ops active and operator status is required to avoid desync issues.

General Rules for WebChannel Owners
(They should be using the same rules as for the public channels)

∗ Chatters should be treated fairly at all times if they are misbehaving in the channel they should we warned first, if they continue then they should be kicked and finally a ban. (There should be no straight banning people with no chances to correct their behaviour)

∗ If a nick is inappropriate it should be asked to change and given 60 seconds to do so, if in this time they have not changed then the nick only should be banned not the IP.If they come back more than 3 times with a bad nick then yes ban the IP.

∗ Nicks like *hot* *cam* *sex* or anything remotely like these should NOT be on auto bans.Chatters are entitled to ask people to cam with them and although a large majority of the people on these webcam4u nicks etc are pests they still are not bad nicks and should not be banned.Nicks like "naked/nudeboy", "sexylady", "hotmale" and other nicks similar to these should NOT be banned.If a nick looks a bit suspicious it should be watched and banned for content.

∗ Web Owners should be attending their channel regularly and making sure that the ops they have chosen are carrying out these rules fairly and that they know the rules and have read THIS webpage. All too often the owners dissapear but dont want to give up the channel and so just let the ops run it, and ops are just making up their own rules as they go along.This includes the banning of nicks that are perfectly ok to use.If this happens and there is too many complaints about chatters being treated unfairly, stupid bans being set for simple little things or ops using their op status to ban for personal reasons then the channel will just be removed from the web.

∗ Akicks should only be set on people as a very last resort and at no time should they be added for personal reasons (i.e a certain op does not like this chatter so just throws him on akick).Also nicks that are not bannable have been placed on akick so check your akick list please and remove these kind of akicks.

∗ All kick messages should be clear and not stupid msgs that noone can really tell why the person was banned. Kick messages like "lamer" "get out" etc are not acceptable. If a chatter comes and complains to us about being kicked or banned we cant possibly tell with a message like this what the ban has been for.Some web chatters dont even see the message in status so they dont know either the reason for the ban. So at all times the kick message should state why that person has been removed.

∗ The Ops in web channels should be chosen carefully by the channel owners and they should not have a history of flooding and abuse in other channels.If the owners choose Ops who abuse others and it happens in the webroom then there is a possibility that channel may be removed.

∗ Swearing is allowed in channels as long as it isn't directly aimed at someone to abuse and as long as it isn't excessive.

∗ You should make sure your channel has enough Op coverage so that people aren't having to constantly come to #help for to get help because others are abusing or flooding. IRCops are under no obligation to come and fix problems in webchannels although we will if we have the time to do it.

∗ All languages should be allowed in all channels to a certain extent, in specific language channels i.e a German channel for instance English should be allowed as long as its only a few people and it is not disrupting the chat. Same for all other channels they should allow other languages if it is only a few people speaking, if it gets to the stage the main language is taking over the chat please ask them to move to the appropriate language channel. i.e Kick messages should be like i.e Please type /join #Germany

We understand people are having problems connecting with flash chat, unfortunately this is not a problem we can fix it is a problem with lightirc itself. One of our IRCops have contacted the coders of lightirc but with no joy. It is not only on this server it has problems it is the actual flash.
We have put various different kinds of chat on our websites so people can try alternate ways to get here.
