Some of you might remember me from 8~ years ago on the ICQ IRC Chat. I'm Saturn. I used to be a ChanOp and I fell off the grid for a bit as life got pretty busy! [size=78%]As things started to slow down a bit, I tried to find my old IRC friends again, and finally came here :-)[/size]

The newest & latest version of mIRC is now at version 7.35
This version is an update from version 7.34 & has a few adjustments/changes made. (See: mIRC.com's website for list of complete changes).


Keep in mind, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, etc - please stop by #mIRC on LibraIRC. We're always available to take questions, have a conversation, etc. If you need urgent assistance with matters other then the mIRC client, please use the channel #Help.


Side-Note:
As a beta-tester for the mIRC client, I usually get the next version before released to the public, therefore I come in contact with some interesting conversations dealing with the mIRC client. I've been on IRC since 1996, and registered my client in/around 1999. (So this would even effect me).


- I've heard & seen some things about the price of the mIRC client changing. Instead of a lifetime registration(s), for business(es), and other forms of companies/users, the registration will now only be valid for/around 10 (ten) years. (Still a great deal of time for $20.00)


- This isn't something that's set in stone (so-to-say), but I will continue to ask questions & get more information about this & pass it along to everyone! If you're curious about this; see mirc.com's website by simply clicking HERE.

Hi this is an Add ons for Vlc media Player for mIRC :
Please read the instructions how to use -
How to download : click on vlc.mrc to download the addon and save it where u want to save and run .
How to Load : Open mIRC : Go to Tools » Script Editor » Remote , after remote go to File » Load , Press ok .
Copy vlc.mrc addons on folder where u want to keep it after save . load ir and run it after run you will get some options which are as follows :


VLC media player to use this script. Usage: /vlc -l to echo or -m to message active window. To use this, first you must open VLC and go to View > Add Interface > Web Interface, and you might get a firewall pop up, just click allow. All set.

Recently I've come onto the #Radio, to find it offline, and went to fill in the
air time with some of my classical music selections.

Often times, you know me for playing lots of 70s music, and although i used
to be more rigid in taking requests, i have incorporated that into my repertoire,
if i think it will integrate well with the era of what is currently playing.

Sometimes, though I just want to play something entirely different, as we
can't always be expected to have the happy-go-lucky attitude.  So I like to
add a little variety by playing some of my classical music.

I can honestly understand, that not everybody will like this genre of music,
i mean.. get me in the room with some country music, or blast some dubstep
in my ears, and i'm sure i'd shy away from the radio as well.

Each radio DJ has their own unique music selection, and their own style, and
their own way of playing. Milk loves to talk during her programs, and thats
perfect for her program, I enjoy listening to Milk.

If you know me in my personal life though, you'd know I am a selectively vocal
person, and thats kind of evident in the way I play the radio program as well.

I was recently told though, that I can only play 2 or 3 classical songs in a row,
but anyone who appreciates classical music, knows that you can't just play a
couple, and then switch to the backstreet boys, or shakira, or even anything
from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s... its like a mixed drink, there are certain things that
just don't mix well together. as I think any DJ should be able to appreciate the
concept that.... the previous song, sets the tone for the next song. one song
often complements the other.  Just like when I play my 70s mix, I hand-pick
each song, for what I think will mix well with the previous.

I was also told that I am required to take every single request, which I completely
disagree with. We were told, we should take as many requests as possible, but...
I think ultimately, the DJ playing has the final say, as it should be left to their
discretion, on what they think will sound good on the radio.

Otherwise, you will end up with people throwing in fruity picks, not because they
want to listen to a song, but because they know others might not like it.

That's why when I play the radio, I never select anything that I don't want to listen
to myself. Because if I don't want to listen to a song, how can  I expect my listeners
to enjoy it either?

I have been told that very few people like my classical selections, but I have
remembered several times, where I have people complement me on even the classical
music, and welcome the change of pace. I also observe that often times, the number
of listeners is consistent, with 17-20+ listeners.  In fact, I've gotten more of a positive
response from the classical program, than when i played a random mix of music.
that's neither here nor there though, as the listener rate is not a good judge of
actual listeners, but is just something I've observed.

I am usually confronted though about the classical music, when I  have a listener join
radio, and say they don't like the music.... well thats going to be true of any music you
play. theres always going to be at least 1 person who doesnt like what is being played.
some like it hot.... some like it cold.... you can't please everybody, and thats just the way
it is. but we shouldn't be expected to change who we are, or the things we like to play
just because one or two people aren't satisfied.

its like going into a restaurant, and saying you hate the food, and expecting them to change
the whole menu based on your preferences. its unrealistic.

I've had a lot of difficulty in the past, because I've always tried to change my own
behavior to match what others around me liked.  That wasn't being true to myself
though, pleasing others is great... but changing yourself to be more like what others
want, well its a good way to end up in a mental hospital. lol 

I don't want to insult the other DJ players, but I actually find it difficult myself, to listen
to most of their programs, as the modern music just doesn't sit well with me... but just
because I don't like it, doesn't mean they shouldn't keep playing it. I embrace their
differences, because I'm sure a lot of the younger generations love that kind of music,
as listening to music is an extremely subjective experience... because we often
associate certain memories and experiences with the music we listened to in the past.

With that being said, just about any kind of music played will trigger something different
in each person... and its because of these vast differences, we should allow each DJ to
play whatever strikes them.

Worst case scenario, when that persons 2 hours is up, another DJ can intervene and say
hey Warren, step aside, its time to play some good music. lol

I dont think Im asking for much, just for the right for the DJ to play the music the way they
want to play it.  In the chat, we have the freedom to say what we like, as long as it doesnt
harm or offend anybody.  Why I also feel we shouldn't be denied a culture of classical music.

If we don't like it, just like in chat...  we always have an option to ignore something we
dont want to hear, and we'll just come back when the music we like to hear is playing.

I realize that this might seem like an internal matter, and maybe I should have posted on
a DJ board instead, but I also did not forget, that the broad range of our listeners are out
here in the public, and I also want to hear their take on the matter.

Classical music for hundreds of years has inspired creativity and inspiration in billions of
people... most of our greatest artists, poets, and story writers, have all been inspired by
this layer of music, and putting limits on what we are allowed to showcase, is in my mind
tying the hands of ones expression.

I feel pretty strongly about this, and I want every DJ to feel comfortable to play whatever
they feel, even if others can't always appreciate it.

  Talk about Security
================

I'd first like to start out by saying,

    "Security of a system, is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain"

To maintain the security of your system as a whole, you have to ensure that
  there are no weak links, or at very least minimize them.

Someone was asking me today, what I would recommend for a good piece of 
  anti-virus / anti-malware, and so I thought I'd touch on the topics of Computer
  security and my experiences.

First of all, I'd like to point out, that there is no such thing as a perfect security
  solution. If someone is determined to get into your PC, with enough time and
  effort, they will find a way.  The idea is, to remove your computer as low-hanging
  fruit, to the people who have automated the process of looking for vulnerabilities
  on computers.

  Security in Obscurity
=================

If you don't browse the internet you are safe... wrong!  That's a common misconception,
  that, as long as you aren't perusing the web, that nobody can get your IP, and all
  is well.  The second your computer is assigned an IP address and the network icon
  indicates you are online, your computer is immediately fair game.  There are programs
  out there who scan every single IP-range, and trying their luck.  On top of that, any
  program with update features built-in, whether its Microsoft, Chrome, etc. will be
  be connecting behind the scenes.

  Rolling the Dice
=============
Its a game of probability, its likely you reduce your odds of being attacked online
  by not browsing the web. If you update windows periodically, you reduce that chance
  even more. If you have good software security in place. you reduce the odds even greater.

If you stick to the mainstream popular websites, ie gmail, google, microsoft, and such, you are
  not likely to run any risk of picking up anything you shouldn't.  As these mainstream websites
  are frequently policed and have mastered filtering a lot of the malware.

When you stray from the path though, thats when things get dicey, and your security is no
  longer guaranteed. Usually websites that host immoral or questionable, or just plain illegal
  content, are safe-havens for malware. They slip in through seemingly innocent ads, typically
  through  Javascript, or web exploits... or if its a torrent website, or a download website, they
  are just  packaged together, and pray you don't have the software to recognize it, until its too late.

  To Flash or Not to Flash
===================

  If you've been paying attention, you'll notice, a lot of browsers are starting to reject Flash entirely.
  Mozilla (Firefox) has refused to allow Flash, until they start upgrading their software.  Just this week
  Chrome announced that it also is going to refuse to accept Flash.  Adobe Flash lets browsers kind of
  run these little programs inside the browsers, which are popular for hosting media content.  I actually
  refuse to run Flash, and its surprisingly just how little I've ever needed to use it...

  So what the heck is HTML5?  html5 is a new standard, introduced a couple years ago, that allows you
  to host media content and is a huge improvement to the web in general. It has more or less been used
  to stop the heavy reliance on Adobe Flash, who has refused to update the vulnerabilities in their software.

  So, do yourselves a favor, and uninstall Flash... there's rare circumstances where you might need it,
  but if that's the case, I prefer to "Disable" it in the Addons menu, until I do need to use it. Never let it
  run automatically on its own.

  Blocking Ads
===========

  I recommend a few Addons for Firefox, usually you can find a few alternatives in Chrome:

A tip for anyone unable to hear the radio via the website, or a handy function for those using scripts. I had this info sent to me.
I don't know if it works for Macs but it's ok on Windows PC's. You need to be able to see filename extensions to be able to do this. eg. new notepad file.txt not simply new notepad file
The .txt extension is important. For simplicity I won't enter the steps to show filename extensions but if needed I will, later. It's fairly simple to do.

A handy place to do this is on your desktop. Right click the desktop and select ''New'', then select text document. Open the new file and on a single line type or copy and paste exactly as follows:

[playlist]NumberOfEntries=1File1=http://radio.librairc.net:4008/Title1=CenkLength1=-1Version=2

There is no space at the start of that line and there are no spaces throughout.

Click on ''File'' then ''Save'' and close the file. Then, right click the filename and rename it listen.pls
You'll will receive an alert that you are changing the filename extension and you must allow the change. After the change, click the file and it should open your default media player. If it does not work, you will need to right click the file and select ''Open With". Choose a media player and see if it works. If not, download Winamp from here: http://www.winamp.com/ and install it. Afterwards if when clicking the listen.pls file and it still won't open, right click the file again and select ''Open With''. If you don't see Winamp in the options, click the little plus sign to expand for more options.

I enjoy reading about the workings and news of the network, and like many who have registered on this forum have not typically posted anything.  I still like to be "in the know". 

With time the network changes, and so I would like to see more announcements that show some of these (hopefully) positive changes being shared with the general public.  For example, a while back, there was a post regarding the rooms that are officially operated by the libra.irc team.  Have any official rooms been added or deleted.

Also, I noticed recently that George hasn't been around a lot and that he is no longer an IrcOp. I do not really need to know personal reasons, but for me, I would like to know of changes to the team. Is there a listing of the current IrcOps, chanops, global ops that would be updated so that I (we) can know who is running the show?
