We had some good information on some of our old forums, so we have merged them with our new  forums so that information isn't lost. The new forums you will also notice are new boards as we have changed from SMF to myBB Boards.Hope you like them kudos to Immortal for all his hard work in moving all these posts it was a  huge  job merging 3  different Forums

Hope you are all well and enjoying what is offered here ..


Just to say - I am a Chanop, and what this means to me, as a person...........


I joined Irc Chat a good many years ago where I developed long time and lasting friendships with many chatters from across the globe. This in turn meant that I developed a passion for the Channels I was chatting in and subsequently the server itself and the moderators that managed it. Times moved and eventually I found myself as trainee, Chanop and Chatter.


When I parter the server for a while and then returned to find LiraIrc, I found still some of the same chatters and Management team in place,so of course, when asked, I offered my services to maintain what it is we all hold dear --- Friendly chat.


So, why do I moderate? To maintain what it is I hold dear to my heart and life style - Friendly, respectful humorous chat.


So what do I expect in return? Exactly that !!!! Friendly, chat with a bit of banter.


It is essential to me (and possibly some of the other ops on the network) that you understand -
We are not here to fix the worlds Religious and or political standings. 
We are Humans and may take time and discussions to manage certain situations that arise
We are certainly not able or willing to take on board your insults without it making an impression (though we try not to judge  you day by day)
Our MUM's are off limits in terms of Insults  - they are our Mum's for crying out loud ....  Try to be nice


Whilst I will never understand what trolling is or why it happens, I am still determined to help manage it with effective Good chat.... Please don't push me to warn and or ban you guys. If you definitely hate  what we are doing here - Leave .... there are no better chat communities, but feel free to go look for them.


More than anything - Love and hugs ...

I would like to personally thank you for attending the LibraIrc.net chatters convention this week.


I am sure that you will agree it was a very productive meeting pool and we certainly feel it has been constructive towards the management and operations of our network.

As some of you may know, they're planning to reboot the Star Trek tv
series, and it will be airing sometime in 2017. 

Many people seen the last series "Star Trek: Enterprise" to be something
of a failure, and really only a die-hard trekky could really appreciate it for
what it was.

It was after the network got the poor ratings for the show, that they
cancelled it, and announced that they were "going to wait another 10 years"
to give the show a chance to bounce back.  basically, treating it like the
old 60s star trek, thinking that by giving it a break, that it will pick up
more appeal.

I didnt really agree with that philosophy, because the appeal for star trek
has always been there, and you can't blame poor ratings on a bad show, for
lack of appeal.

The new series, in my eyes, is already waving some huge warning flags, that
is a bit concerning, especially since they haven't even aired a pilot.

A huge part of what makes star trek great, has always been its casting... a place
where the last Star Trek, really fell short. The captain and the first officer, being two
well-known actors from a couple of really bad tv shows.  Though I guess you could
say even Kirk was known as an actor in some westerns, and Picard was a relatively
famous actor even before star trek... he at least fit into the role perfectly.

What I find concerning, is that when they talk about the news for the show, they picked
two famous new actors, but whats upsetting, i'm certain that they picked them because
of their gender and skin color.  I know this, because in the news articles i've read, they
describe how they really wanted a female captain, and a female first officer, and then
mentioned that they wanted a black woman as part of the crew. To take it one step further,
they said that they were also going to have a gay person as part of the crew.

That really just blows my mind, because, i don't care if the actors are male, female, gay or
straight... but you should be picking people to fit into your story, and not picking people for
the sake of diversity alone.  Which thats exactly what they said they were doing, they
wanted to stick to the tradition of diversity, of having someone, black, asian, etc.

I just think, a show, that is founded on such high moral grounds, is starting itself out by
being racially, gender selective.  basically, its almost the inverse of discrimination, which in a
strange way, is still a form of discrimination.  You're no longer picking actors for their ability or
capability to fulfill a role, but you're intentionally singling out a common denomination, for
the soul sake of diversity.

The news article i read also pointed out shortly after saying they were going to have a gay
crew member, that the director of the show was gay too... first of all, why does that even
matter? that's his business, and none of anyone elses business what his sexual preference
is, and has no place in being in the news. It was like they said it though, because they felt
that everyone should know how progressive the director was, and that it will have some sort
of undertone for writing in a gay crew member.

Its all just a little bizarre if you ask me, because, the other series, have already had... a young
captain, an old captain, a black captain, and a female captain. Each of them (not counting ST:E)
were amazing, and I respected them all.  I just don't ever recall though, the media portraying
these characters in advance by their gender, race, or preference. They just fit into their parts.
Now i feel like, they want a black female captain, just so they can say they've done it.

Its like when I vote for a president, I dont want a president for the soul reason that he's one
color or gender, just for the sake of them being that color or gender. I choose a person to be a
president, based on if they will fit into that role, and improve things.

in closing.... its not a great way to start this show with such questionable casting requirements.

i apologize if anything said here was offensive to anyone, but that's not the intention.

its because i respect people from all walks of life, that i myself almost find this sort of casting offensive.

Being fully aware that the opinions of chatters carry little weight in the decisions you make regarding Ops, I'd still like to ask that you consider making Debra a full chanop sooner rather than later.

It's quite clear over the time that she's been in #lounge that she very much cares about the chatters and the quality of the chat experience. Too often has she been in chat when there are issues that she cannot handle because there is no Op around for her to partner with. It would benefit all of us if Debra was able to manage such issues when they arise, rather than sitting on the sidelines with the rest of us.

I've seen several times in #Lounge chat, of ops asking people
to ignore each other.

Then usually that just goes unheeded and the people continue to
prattle on at each other, and disrupts the whole channel.

So my suggestion is, to create a command that forces a users
client to /silence +*!*@xxx a user.

So you could then use that command to silence both people from
reading each others text. They will likely not even notice that the
event took place, and chat can go on as normal.

Usage:

/fignore [client hostname] [hostmask to ignore]]]
/fignore Warren!*@* Xylophone!*@*

Forces 'Warren'' to ignore text from nickname 'Xylophone'

Hi, I am sure my suggestion will be welcomed.


When I connected thru mibbit to here I had two options ( to choose will I connect using SSL, and I have a spell checker in my browser that worked only when I connected thru them.)


1. Many users would wanna use programs for spell checking like Grammarly or whatever, and are ridiculed here most of the time cause of their spelling ( i dont care but for some this starts being a trouble and they are scared to use main rooms when someone points out their spelling ). It worked for me when I connected trhu mibbit I would have a red underline every time.


2.Also everyone wants improved security and to feel secure, I know libra is not mibbit, but allowing user SSL option before they connect.And to have let's say online Logs would be cool if it could work.Not saying this is possible right now today.
everyone can type in mibbit and check out. * that you can have a working spell  checker in the browser and also an option to have SSL, online logs connected to the account are more - less important. ehhh Thank you
